Deja’s Adopted Friends

All of these dogs were rescued from high kill shelters on the night before their euthanasia by fosters who rehabilitated them with love and care. Fortunately, they now have homes!

Patches

Patches is such a striking, incredibly sweet and tender dog who has really gotten the raw end of the deal until now: Although he's only a year old, he was adopted from a shelter across the country, only to be abandoned by his owner who was moving in a high kill shelter in Manhattan. He is the NICEST dog!

I was adopted!

Lady Anabelle

Are you looking for a faithful friend who will stay by your side, except when she has dropped onto her back, begging you for belly rubs? Then do we have the girl for you, whether you are a man, woman, adult or child. Lady Annabelle is the perfect pet combination of extremely affectionate and endearing yet also very level headed, a dog who goes with the flow but is all the happier if the flow happens to include a lot of pats along the journey.

I was adopted!

Rick

This Boxer isn't all beauty—although he's sure got a lot of that. In the shelter from which he was rescued, he was given the honor of being the "greeter dog," meaning that his diplomatic skills are so extraordinary he could greet each dog in play group and see what they were all about.

I was adopted!

Zoombini

Most of us would do well to possess one of the qualities that Zoombini has. Brought to a high kill shelter as a stray, he was immediately described by volunteers with words like "gentle," "trusting," "attentive," "friendly," and "soft and bouncy" when playing with other dogs.

I was adopted!

Nutmeg

She is such a gentle soul!" says Nutmeg's foster of this adorable, 1 year old boxer/pit mix, who weighs a delicate 35 pounds. "Her manners are lovely, she has no demands, she's generous, calm, and smart," continues her human roommate, "What a keeper!" Ah, but there's the rub: Nutmeg, who was rescued off the euth list at a high kill shelter recently can't be kept by her foster, who needs to continue rescuing more dogs like Nutmeg.

I was adopted!

Kiara

Two year old Kiara is the exception to the adage "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" because there is no one who doesn't behold this darling, funny, sweet girl and say, "Wow!" So universal is her gorgeousness.

I was adopted!

Gotti

The gorgeous gray Gotti is just a gem—and not just in the looks department. Surrendered to a high kill shelter and rescued by the foster with whom he is living, the one year-old is extraordinarily loving and affectionate.

I was adopted!

Little Moon

Little Moon sends us over the proverbial moon with her sweetness, charm, and poise. She's a miracle of a girl: Only recently she arrived at a high-kill shelter, an underweight (only 38 pounds), 2 year-old stray who had clearly been a mother recently. Yet even in that chaos, she wowed: She is loving to all dogs, big and small.

I was adopted!

Brandy

This delicate beauty was rescued by a New York police officer who found her tied to a fence during a snowstorm, severely malnourished and freezing to death.

I was adopted!

Max Sinatra

Notes from the medical exams at the high kill shelter from which Max Sinatra was rescued are meant to be clinical only-weight, overall condition, and the like. Yet the vet couldn’t resist writing “very sweet boy!” in Max’s note!

I was adopted!

Paulie

"Magnificent," is how two people have individually and separately described this amazing 1 year old boy, who was relinquished with a heavy heart to a shelter because of landlord issues. Before that, Paulie lived harmoniously and incredibly happily with three kids.

I was adopted!

Lizzie

Dear Lizzie is a sweet, docile, two-year-old girl looking for a couch to curl up on, preferably in your lap if you don't mind. She is gorgeous, perfectly trained, thanks to her foster who rescued her from a high-kill shelter.

I was adopted!

Rockman

Whether you are looking for a Yorkie mix, a big dog in a small dog's body, or a companion with whom to laugh and experience the world, you could do no better than Rockman, a 6 year old rescue with the manners of a gentleman and the spirit of a goofball.

I was adopted!

Ronnie

This demure, 2 year old sweetheart is such a lovely companion! She displays her great affection for people by offering up a million kisses, as well as rolling over on her back and, her foster swears, "Giving the biggest smile!" Ronnie was rescued

I was adopted!

Smokey

Our gorgeous Smokey is a looker and a lover. At 1 1/2 years old, Smokey is still shaking off his time as a stray which means his idea of a good time in his foster home is being with another dog and/or person 24/7. He's such a gentle, dear being that one could do no better in life than having such a soul by one's side, and his sociability is a delight to all canines and humans with whom he interacts.

I was adopted!

Priscilla

Priscilla's beauty can be easy to miss, but that's only because she's so busy wagging and wiggling with joy just to be paid attention to that she can occasionally be a bit of a blur. This petite girl, who was rescued from a high kill shelter, is joy incarnate but she is also extremely well-mannered, never confusing enthusiasm for errant behavior.

I was adopted!

Miley

Forget that other Miley, although it must be admitted our beloved dog does share one trait with Cyrus: She does love an audience. But after that, it's all about proper manners and kindness and pleasing others.

I was adopted!

Penelope Pooh Bear

"Loving," "mellow," "adorable," "everything one could want in a family dog and more." These are the words used by several people who have met and fallen for Penelope Pooh Bear since she was rescued from a high kill shelter, where she was brought as a stray.

I was adopted!

Jambo

This heavenly 3 year-old German Shepherd mix would make a perfect and joyful addition to any family! Professionally trained since being rescued from a high kill shelter, Jambo is sweet, kind, and extremely gentle with everyone she meets.

I was adopted!

Cardamom

This delightful 1 year old quickly became a favorite at the shelter thanks to his great nature--calm, affection, gentle, and always loving (he even loves cats!!!)

I was adopted!

Boomer

German Shepherds are known for their great beauty, deep souls, and extraordinary loyalty, and 6 year-old Boomer is no exception. For his entire life, he has lived with someone who shared the same virtues, but now finds himself in a foster home as his former owner was deployed oversees and could not take Boomer with him.

I was adopted!

Camilla

You'll have no more cravings for candy if you have Camilla in your life, because she is 100%, pure sweetness. This one-year-old bundle of love has the most gorgeous temperament.

I was adopted!

Alexa

This darling 1 1/2 year old adores people, and shows her adoration not only with affection but with spectacular manners: She listens to all her commands (she has been professionally trained) and always comes when called!

I was adopted!

Lil Blue

Lil Blue is an infectiously funny 1 1/2 year old girl who shows a little bit of a working drive: Need your tennis ball fetched? Check. Your sheep herded? Very possible. Short of that, a tennis ball will do.

I was adopted!

Louise

There's a wonderful Sandra Boynton's children's book with a refrain that could have been written for this 7 month old girl, found as a stray and rescued from a high kill shelter: "Oh, snuggle puppy of mine, everything about you is especially fine...

I was adopted!

Sassy

Sassy stole our hearts in the shelter where she was rescued by a foster, and she continues to delight every moment we spend with her! This three year old love has a wonderful sense of humor that she is so eager to share with the people around her.

I was adopted!

Roscoe

Behind this gorgeous facade lies a goofy lover and licker, who wants to do nothing more than shower his walker with affection. Rescued from a high kill shelter, Roscoe is looking for a forever owner to make the most loved human in the world.

I was adopted!

Justa

Our sweet Justa, who is only 1 1/2, is so darling—a bit timid around new situations or objects (and cats, it must be admitted—she runs for the hills when she sees a cat), but unsparingly affectionate and forthcoming with all people.

I was adopted!

Jose

Jose won his first fans when he arrived at a high kill shelter, a puppyish 11 month old with one blue eye, one brown eye, and a heart that is nothing but filled with love and adoration. In the last few months since he was rescued by a foster, who is now caring for him while he waits for his forever home, he continues to wow everyone he meets with his unbelievable charm and sweetness.

I was adopted!

Grammy

This beautiful, beloved lady came into the Hempstead shelter, which Deja Foundation is so proud to do everything we can for! Here is what our friend Shari says about her--she is really, really spectacular. (Shari is as well!) "Grammy came to us a stray, sad and lonely in the kennels I pulled her into my office where she has continued to blossom! She might be a senior but she has a lot of spring in her step still..."

I was adopted!

Emily

We wish that a dog as amazing as Emily didn't have to have her greatness noticed thanks to suffering a terrible accident, but if there is something good that has come out of this 1 year old stray being hit by an ambulance, it's that she is being loved up more than any dog we know!

I was adopted!

Diablo

Extraordinary dog alert! Diablo may be the most misnamed dog in history. This gentle, soulful, two-year-old dog is—according to his foster, who's known a lot of dogs—"As perfect as a dog can get." Seriously.

I was adopted!

Coco

This stunning 2.5 year old has absolutely stolen his foster's heart...as well as anyone else who has had the pleasure to interact with this gorgeously behaved, joyful dog! "One of the dearest dogs ever," one person says about him, "An elegant fellow with old-fashioned manners." But lest he sound fuddy-duddy, let us assure

I was adopted!

Apollo

"Adorable," "sweet," "easy," are three words that everyone who meets our beloved 2 year-old Apollo use to describe him. Before he was surrendered to (and rescued from) a high-kill shelter, his former family reported that he lived with children, cats, and a turtle (a turtle!) with whom he got along beautifully.

I was adopted!

Damian

Looks can be deceiving…but not in the case of Damian! He is even more adorable than he appears, if such a thing is possible.

I was adopted!

Tiny

If you are looking for a dog who will be the perfect companion, look no further than the perfection that is Tiny, a 1 year old boy who has lived in harmony with three children and a rabbit!!! Before Tiny was surrendered to a high kill shelter, his family sang his praises--wonderful with children, adores time in the dog park playing with other dogs, social and charming.

I was adopted!

Ritz

"Are you happy? Are you happy?" If Ritz could speak, that's what he would be asking you, and reveling in your affirmative answer because how could you not be happy around him?

I was adopted!

Eli

This one year old, gorgeous comedian has won the heart of everyone who has met him since he was rescued from a high kill shelter, and he has made them laugh so hard...because to know Eli is to laugh. His puppy-like exuberance is infectious,

I was adopted!

Doone

Doone isn't even a year old but he's already got a lifetime of fans! Rescued from a high kill shelter, Doone has won the hearts of all he has met along the way, except for that one perfect person (or family) who might offer him a forever home.

I was adopted!

Kelly

If this adorable 1 year old could say one word, it would be "HAPPY!!!!!!!" Luckily, her constantly wagging tail makes her preternatural joy obvious to all around her, and it is absolutely contagious. She was rescued from a high kill shelter but is now tearing a swath of love through the world at her foster home...just waiting for her forever home where she can love and be loved forever.

I was adopted!

Plato

Plato is such an amazingly warm-hearted, gentle love of a dog that his foster mother admits to playing favorites on occasion when it comes to spending time with 1 year old, fantastic pet who gets along with dogs and humans of all sizes.

I was adopted!

Pipsqueak

Remember that kindergarten rule about no favorites? Throw it out the window, because since the other dogs can't hear us we just have to say PIPSQUEAK IS OUR FAVORITE DOG EVER!!!

I was adopted!

Trey

The sweet, kind, low-energy, perfect-for-a-home-as-is love bug otherwise known as Trey is waiting, just waiting, for a forever family! Until recently, Trey had lived his life so happily with a family with children (he adores children), and all was going perfectly until the family fell on hard times and lost their home.

I was adopted!

Buddy

Bring us your cats, your dogs, your children and family. Because we've got Buddy, 1 1/2 year old ready to teach them all about having a wonderful time in his exuberant, loving company!

I was adopted!

Jane

She looks like a hound but this girl is all lady, or—as her foster parent says, "A little lady in a dog disguise." What an angel this two year old is! She is quiet and sweet whose kind eyes melt hearts.

I was adopted!

France

This elegant, gentle mature lady was rescued from a high kill shelter by a foster who, like the volunteers in the shelter who championed her, could not resist France's kindness and deep soul and were equally unable to accept her circumstances.

I was adopted!

Bolt

Bolt is a gorgeous and exuberant 1 year old who loves to share his joy and fun with everyone. He wants to play with every dog he meets, and offers hugs to strangers caught admiring him. Off leash, he dances merrily about with a stuffed toy clutched in his mouth, bouncing around without a care in the world. And although Bolt relishes his playtime, he knows how to sit, stay, and shakes paw on command. He also walks well on the leash.

I was adopted!

Max

The mushalicious Max is such a spectacular boy! This two year old was surrendered to the shelter because his owners were moving, and it was a wrenching separation for all because Max has been so beloved. What's not to love? He's lived with children and dogs and gotten along with all of them wonderfully; he knows how to sit, stay, and "shake paws

I was adopted!

Big Blue

What an extraordinary, dapper gentleman our 4 year-old Big Blue is! He carries his size (77 pounds) with such elegance, heeling like a gem and sitting on command. He is kind to other dogs, he is generous with his toys, treats and food, and he is so sweetly but calmly affectionate with people. Big Blue stole the volunteers hearts when he arrived at a high kill shelter recently as a stray

I was adopted!

Winter

Stunning, sweet, gentle, kind...We can't say enough about our 1 year old Winter! "She has a warm and friendly character," said her owner as he surrendered her to a high-kill shelter,

I was adopted!

Little Lulu

Little Lulu stole our hearts when she arrived at a high-kill shelter recently by wriggling into our laps, giving us kisses, and looking at us with such gratitude with her beautiful, amber eyes. This 4 year old is the tenderest, sweetest girl you will ever meet. She has the most beautiful, kindest face, with a body that is wagged by

I was adopted!

Bear

This two year old darling doesn't much like having his picture taken, at least when he can instead stare out at the sea, which about sums up this wonderful, mellow 2 year old pit/mastiff/shep mix who also counts having his belly rubbed as among his favorite activities.

I was adopted!

Robert Redford

Robert Redford is stunning (natch!) But oh, his heart! It's so magnificent and magnanimous that if there were a dog movie star he would be our pick to win the love of millions of fans. And he can, the second he finds a forever home!

I was adopted!

Sugar Plum

As sweet as candy! That's what the petite Sugar Plum reminds us of, a delicious, decadent taffy made of milk and caramel. Sugar Plum wiggles her body with delight when she meets dogs and people, yet is serene and low key with her companions

I was adopted!

Lady White

Lady White is a stunning 5 year old Lab/German Shepherd mix who was owned her entire life by the same family until they sadly had to surrender her due to financial issues. And a true family dog she is, longing to be back in a home as that is all she has ever known.

I was adopted!

Missy

This achingly-kind 1 and a half year old Lab mix has broken the heart of all who have met her--and then mended it again with her loving spirit. She's a shy girl, but put at ease offers up her love easily,

I was adopted!

Onyx

Is there a Harvard degree for dogs? If so, this one-year-old black lab mix—whose joy belies the sadness of her recent life—would have one, with Phi Beta Kappa honors.

Only a few months ago, Onyx was abandoned to the streets, where she was hit by a car and taken to a high-kill shelter. There, she was put on the euthanasia list, rescued at the last minute

I was adopted!

Tisha

This beautiful one-and-a half-year-old Pointer/Terrier mix, rescued from a high-kill shelter, is an absolute gem of a dog, as her foster parent attests—a perfect family dog who is sweet, gentle, polite, and so eager to please. Tisha loves to give kisses and she loves to run around outside to get some exercise.

I was adopted!

Sparky

They don’t come smarter, sweeter, or more eager to please than this gorgeous two-year-old vizsla/pit mix. Sparky was rescued by his foster from the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter. When he arrived in his new home, it was clear he had been abandoned long before he lost his first home.

I was adopted!

Sheila

“I fell in love with her the first time I saw her!” is a frequent comment made about this one-and-a-half-year-old hound mix, recently rescued off the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter after being abandoned, tied for days to a flag pole.

“She’s the most fun dog I’ve ever met!” says another who has spent time with her. “What a love!”

I was adopted!

Princess

Again and again we are stunned at the capacity for forgiveness and joy possessed by shelter dogs pulled off the euthanasia list at the last minute, but the petite Princess deserves her own tiara when it comes to being a perfect dog. And how she can be perfect after so much suffering … well, that just makes her more perfect!

I was adopted!

Sweet Pea

Our beloved little Sweet Pea, a gorgeous five-year-old shepherd/terrier mix, has such a steady, loving temperament it’s difficult to imagine how sad her days have been only recently. Her owner died, and while she was mourning the death of the person with whom she had lived her whole life, she was turned into a high-kill shelter. Then she was put on the euthanasia list, destined to die herself.

I was adopted!

Ginger

We can't quite agree on whether to describe this glorious 4-year-old as a Pugapit or a Pittug, but all who know and adore Ginger agree that whatever went into her gene pool (we think a pug and a terrier) has turned out a perfect—and we do mean perfect—dog. Rescued from the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter, Ginger is now living with a foster where she has enchanted all who have crossed her path.

I was adopted!

Silver Dollar Duke

Someone once loved Duke enough to overfeed him, as this low key, 3 year-old sweetheart is quite the chunky guy at 83 lbs. But there's only more of him to love!

I was adopted!

Charlie

Are you looking for a playmate who will make you laugh out loud? We have your perfect guy in Charlie, an 11 month old black Lab mix.

I was adopted!

Pebbles

This gentle 2 year old Shepherd mix is beautiful inside and out. When she found herself at a high-kill shelter after being brought in as a stray, she adapted so sweetly and calmly to the chaos that volunteers fell in love, determined that she not be euthanized.

I was adopted!

Kryptonite

This elegant, big-hearted and big-souled Shepherd--he's so beautiful he takes our breath away!--is homeless for what is among the saddest of reasons; after living for his entire 5 years with the same beloved owner, her landlord would no longer allow him.

I was adopted!

Fancy Beckam

This gorgeous 1 year-old, 36 pound girl has everything going for her! Perfectly trained, she lived in harmony with another dog, a cat, and children before her family had to surrender her to a high-kill shelter because they were moving.

I was adopted!

Kyle Kenya

This now-beloved one year-old recently arrived at a shelter in not such great shape, emaciated and presenting with a wound and a manner suggesting he had been beaten. But oh my, what a little top-notch vet care and a whole lot of love can do!

I was adopted!

Moore

This 10-month old Great Dane mix is such a love! He loves to play with people and other dogs, and has the energy of most boys his age but he also has a keen intelligence: He has learned how to sit and walk nicely on a leash in record time!

I was adopted!

Dixie

"Dixie is a delicious little boy, waiting to meet his forever home," one besotted volunteer wrote after meeting this 5 month-old at a high-kill shelter. And indeed he is! He charmed his way right off the euth list and into the heart of his current foster, who reports that Dixie is a delight across the board.

I was adopted!

Cherry

This angelic dog arrived at a high kill shelter and was rescued off the euth list by a foster who was moved by the words of the volunteers who all fell in love with Cherry. How unfair for a 3 year old dog this magical to end up in the din of a city shelter, and then be sentenced to death! Here's how Cherry's fans describe her: "The definition of a sweet girl!"

I was adopted!

Beau Dallas

Beau Dallas is indeed gorgeous, and his heart is indeed as big as Texas...and we love him so much we had to name him twice! This 5 year-old Mastiff mix was surrendered by his owner, who had fallen into hard times, to a high kill shelter, but not before he sang BD's praises

I was adopted!

Jolly

She is indeed the epitome of joy, this eager-to-please, beautifully behaved, glorious girl! Jolly, who is one year old and was rescued from a high kill shelter.

I was adopted!

Tommy

There is no kinder soul on the planet, no more extraordinary example of the capacity for compassion and forgivingness than our beloved 4 year old.
Tommy is a former bait dog who adores other dogs. When we recently rescued him from a high-kill shelter, his ears were open wounds thanks to his former owner,

I was adopted!

Ziggy

We can start checking the check list of Ziggy's obvious atttributes: He is adorable. He ignores cats and likes dogs. He is house trained, he knows his basic commands, he walks beautifully on his leash, and he is the best playmate anyone could ask for.

I was adopted!

Tasha

How in the world could this beautiful 2 year old have gone so unappreciated for her (admittedly) short life? Our beloved pup is achingly beautiful--achingly!--and so deeply kind and gentle that if we were looking for a Perfect Pet (capital letters intended), she would be top of the list. Tasha, who was rescued from a high kill shelter by her current foster, is the easiest, most adoptable dog ever.

I was adopted!

Sutter

Sutter is a charming, loving, high-energy 1 year-old hound mix who would be an absolutely delightful addition to any family! His foster, who rescued him from a high kill shelter, is enchanted by his enthusiasm. "He's always so glad to see you!" she says. "His tail is always wagging. He's a fireball of happiness."

I was adopted!

Max the 3rd

Is it possible there are two other Max's in the world? If so, then the world is even more glorious than we previously thought. The 1 year-old Max takes "adorable" over the top and onto the other side. He is always, always ready to play, and he is irresistible with his floppy ears and bobby-socks and general demeanor which broadcasts, "LOVE YOU!

I was adopted!

Lunetta

Everyone falls immediately in love with 2 year old gorgeous girl Lunetta, a true light in the world. That's why, when she appeared as a stray in a high kill shelter, her foster immediately pulled her to keep her safe and sound for the person lucky enough to adopt this gentle girl.

I was adopted!

Hope

Are you looking for a little laughter with a huge dose of love? Hope, a gorgeous, gleeful 1 year-old girl, wow everyone she meets not only with her sweetness but with her hilarious sense of humor. You'll need to see if to believe it, but she's always getting comments like, "She's hilarious!" "So funny!"

I was adopted!

Phineas

Phineas causes everyone to sigh with delight when they see him; the 1 year old boy exudes joy and sweetness and total goofiness. This beloved boy, who is currently living with a foster after having been rescued from a high kill shelter, adores other dogs, is great with cats, and showers affection on every human who comes his way.

I was adopted!

Santa

Santa's of COURSE the most generous present-giver (kisses for everyone! A lap snuggle whenever you want!) but someone forgot to leave him out his cookies and milk and to welcome him into their home this year.

I was adopted!

Duke

Duke is a perfect boy--mellow, kind, beautifully behaved, sweetly affectionate. Sadly, Duke's life has yet to reflect his giant heart. This gorgeous all white boy was abandoned at a high-kill shelter, where he was about to be euthanized before his current foster rescued him. Duke, who weighs 52 pounds, was already pretty perfect when he arrived at his temporary home. Housetrained, knowing basic commands, and eager to please in his quiet, thoughtful way. Now, he could go to Hollywood.

I was adopted!

Bella

"One of the sweetest dogs I have ever encountered," is how Bella's foster describes this 2 and a half year old, and this foster has encountered a lot of dogs! Bella has the largest heart and the dearest soul: She not only will curl up next to you given any opportunity, but she will do so with her head resting on your shoulder.

I was adopted!

Michelle

This darling 1 year old, little girl--and she is so little, at only 39 pounds and coming up no farther than a very small person's knee!-enchanted the volunteers at the high kill shelter at which she arrived with her wonderful manners and joie de vivre. Michelle not only knows her basic commands, and walks so nicely on a leash, but

I was adopted!

Lolita

Pretend you are a child for a moment as you read the story of Lolita, so you know, as with all good children's stories, it will have a happy ending. Even better: You are now a grownup in a position to guarantee a fairy-tale future for our beloved 1-year-old girl, who only months ago was on the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter in New York. But for the moment, steel yourself.

I was adopted!

Ashley

What you see in these extraordinary photos is what you get--an extraordinary dog! Ashley, a 1 year and four month old beagle/terrier mix recently rescued off the euthanasia list at a high kill shelter, is a total mush ball who cannot get close enough to people or give enough affection. She is, as her foster caretaker says, "THE SWEETEST."

I was adopted!

I was adopted!

Diva

No sooner had this 1 and a half year old found herself in a shelter than she found herself the beloved star of the place, with volunteers fighting over whose lap she would sit in. Diva, who weighs a lovely 36 pounds, was surrendered by her owner due to family strife, but not before telling us that our winsome girl lived in a house

I was adopted!

Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood is a 2 year-old delightful mix of a whole lot of things that make up one most endearing dog! A little Great Dane, Lab, Collie, Husky, Burmese Mountain Dog…guess away! What we do know for sure is that he is absolutely wonderful.

I was adopted!

Horton

Stunning Horton was surrendered to a high kill shelter after his owner became too ill to care for him, and immediately began making friends. Within days, this 2 year old was a volunteer favorite, thanks to his beautiful manners (on and off the leash) and his gorgeous teardrop-shaped eyes.

I was adopted!

Lil King

"Smashing!" "A dream boat!" "Love of my life! "I wanted to eat him up!" No, George Clooney wasn't in town--these are the comments from a few people who have been lucky enough to meet Lil King since he was rescued from a high-kill shelter by a foster.

I was adopted!

Gomez

Look at this face! Is this 9 month old not unbelievable looking? He is ten million times more lovable in person, if this is possible: When he arrived at a high-kill shelter, volunteers fell so in love they sponsored him for a month of boarding so he wouldn't be euthanized.

I was adopted!

Laura

The beautiful 4-year old Laura sure looks like she was someone's beloved pet until recently: She has a coat so silky that women would spend hours trying to replicate the sheen in a salon. She is a few pounds overweight at 54 pounds--not at all chubby--but simply to mean she's been well cared for.

I was adopted!

Sandy

Lively but obedient, a kisser extraordinaire, a mushball trapped in a bombshell's body, a dog and people lover--that's our Sandy! Yup, she's pretty perfect as far as everyone is concerned who has met her since she arrived in a high-kill shelter and was put on the euthanasia list for space. The volunteers practically rioted (one generally reserved person described Sandy as "tender as a spring bud") and a foster came in and saved the day, not to mention the 2 year old's life. Now

I was adopted!

Sade

When this--let's just say it--PERFECT!!!! 1 year old dog arrived at a high-kill shelter, everyone fell in love with her. Everyone! Sade's kennel card overflowed with praise, praise that we are learning was just a hint of this dog's wonder. "She melt's everyone's heart!" "The most beautiful manners!" "The most affectionate dog we

I was adopted!

Benji

Benji is such a winning pup; almost a year old and still a bit tentative in the world, approaching everything with curiosity and a touch of shyness (except for cats. Not his best). But everything else is! Rescued from a high kill shelter he is in a foster home right now where he is having a wonderful time playing with the other dogs and learning for the first time that the world can be a safe and loving place for him.

I was adopted!

Penelope

When we first read about Penelope when she arrived at a high kill shelter, we knew we had to rescue her. The volunteers absolutely fawned over her. Now that she's safe, we can say this 2 year old girl is even more extraordinary than we dreamed. She loves to walk, and she loves to jog, so whether you like to spend your Sunday afternoons going for a slow stroll or a long, sweaty run, we've got your dog.

I was adopted!

Moose

Dogs don't get more winning and funny than Moose, a one-year-old American Bulldog/Pit Bull mix. This black-and-white beauty, who was recently rescued from a high-kill shelter and now lives with a foster, is filled with energy and exuberance, as well as brains. He has learned, in a short time, how to sit, walk on a leash, and begin to mind his manners.

I was adopted!

Lexy

Lexy's got it all--ALL!!!! She's calm. She's incredibly friendly. She's great with kids, great with dogs, adorable, loving, gentle, knows her basic commands, is beautifully behaved....so why doesn't she have a home? This phenomenal pet and companion was sadly surrendered to a high-kill shelter by her owner who was told that his landlord would no longer allow the 2 year old because she weighs 40 pounds.

Blossom

Blossom is an impossibly cute pittie pup with a reddish-tan coat and deep, captivating mahogany eyes. Everything about Blossom serves as a billboard to her delectable personality -- her cockeyed ears that rise, fall and point depending on her mood, her wide and wrinkly white snout and red button-nose, her tiny, compact body. Dazzle Diamond

10 month-old Dazzle Diamond more than lives up to her name; this Australian Cattle Dog mix, who weighs 45 pounds, is beautiful inside and out. Owned since she was a puppy by the same family, Dazzle D. was surrendered to a high-kill shelter by her owners because they were moving and couldn't take her. But oh, the wonderful things they had to say about her first!

Rocky

This extraordinarily handsome 1 year old Shepherd mix is such a great boy! Rescued from a high kill shelter, he has a very regal quiet attitude....until you send him to play with a toy and he dissolves with delight. He adores playing with people, and is eager to please, behaving wonderfully on a leash and executing all his basic commands with enthusiasm.

Nice

Ah, the perfect male does indeed exist! Witness the wonder of Nice, a gorgeous-on-the-outside, goofball-on-the-inside, two-year-old black Australian Kelpie mix.

“What a dude!” exclaimed a totally dude-like man who met him, while at the same time a woman bent down to cover Nice with kisses. It’s impossible not to respond with wonder to this wonderful guy.
